On August 21st the new Australian Catholic Council for Lay Pastoral Ministry gathered at Mary MacKillop Place, North Sydney. The members of the council are Mr Daniel Ang, Fr Mark Freeman, Sr Kari Hatherell (Chair), Ms Cathy Jenkins (Executive Member), Ms Olivia Lee, Ms Rachael Smith and Sr Mary-Louise Walsh. Bishop Greg Homeming represents the Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry and Ms Andrea Dean is the Executive Secretary.

Due to the flow on effects of the restructure of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, the Australian Catholic Council for Lay Pastoral Ministry is yet to meet. This is issue of Lay Pastoral Ministry News simply bridges the gap until the members of the Council are officially commissioned and take up their roles.
There have been over 22,000 submissions from individuals and groups who have gathered for the initial phase of the Plenary 2020, participating in listening and dialogue sessions. This phase will continue until early March when the data will be carefully analysed and from this analysis the major themes for the Council will emerge.
In November 2011, the Australian Catholic Council for Lay Pastoral Ministry (ACCLPM) met for the first time. This was a new advisory Council for the Bishops Commission for Church Ministry. In establishing the council, the bishops recognised the unique contribution of lay ministers working alongside priests and deacons building up the Body of Christ.
