In your hands soon!

In your hands soon!In exciting news, the draft form of the national resource is being prepared for circulation to dioceses, networks and other national bodies in the coming month. The next issue of this newsletter will also carry a link to the draft.

Accompanying the draft document will be a shorter summary version. The council believes this may be of use in parish pastoral council settings, and with small groups who may not have time to digest the full document. Also, the summary version will offer a rich design to give a taste of what the full document will look like in its final form.

One reason we cannot offer the full resource in its final design is that it is still missing some vital components. In a word, you are missing! The resource will be all the more richer when it is populated by insights and stories of local lay pastoral ministers and those who work alongside them or who have been enriched by engagement with them. We also welcome photos and any forms or frameworks you have found helpful for working in lay pastoral ministry.

Some of the following questions may guide you in offering a response. You can send these responses to the contact listed in this newsletter:

  1. What motivated you to work in lay pastoral ministry?
  2. How do you understand your role in relationship with your baptismal calling, and your response to God’s action in your life?
  3. What training and formation have you received for the role?
  4. What support and fellowship have you experienced?
  5. What is one of the most challenging aspects of your role?
  6. Share one of your greatest joys in your role.
  7. Share one of your best experiences of collaboration between lay and ordained in ministry.
  8. What is a particular learning or insight you wish to share with others in this ministry?
  9. What other comments do you wish to share about lay pastoral ministry at this time?

Please encourage a colleague, such as a member of clergy, or another co-worker or associate you encounter through your work to respond to the following questions:

  1. What difference has the lay pastoral minister (or lay pastoral ministry in general) made to:
    1. your role
    2. your journey of faith?
  2. What is a particular learning or insight you wish to share with others in this ministry?
  3. What other comments do you wish to share about lay pastoral ministry at this time?

We encourage you to keep your responses not too long, remembering that they may find their way either into the resource, or online.
